flax seed

As you may have noticed, I use flax seed in pretty much all my smoothies, unless I forget to put it in. Flax seed has many health benefits as some evidence has shown flax seeds to reduce your risk of heart attack, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

I buy my flax seed whole and ground it in our blender.  You gain more benefit from using ground flax seed because your body can better digest the ground flax seed.  Whole flax seed may pass through your body undigested.

You can add flax seed to pretty much anything.  I ground it up and put it in my daughter's mac and cheese. :)

apple cutie smoothie

This is another yummy smoothie I made yesterday!

Put a few tablespoons of plain yogurt in the blender first with some flax seeds (I always use flax seeds but you don't have to).  On top add:  a sliced apple, banana, and two cuties (those little oranges/clementines), a small can of crushed pineapple, and apples.  Blend and enjoy!

peanut butter banana smoothie

This is such a yummy smoothie and more for dessert!

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons peanut butter
1 banana
2 cups of vanilla ice cream
chocolate syrup (optional)

I love this smoothie!

My first smoothie recipe

I have been making smoothies for awhile now and decided I would add another blog to share some of my recipes.  My first recipe is a simple fruit recipe.  If you try it, please comment and let me know what you think.  Thanks.

Ingredients:
1 tsp flax seeds
1 cup strawberries
1 banana
1 apple- cut up
1 small can of crushed pineapple
3 tablespoons of plain yogurt
1 scoopful of protein powder (I use plain protein powder that I ordered through Amazon)
Ice cubes
1/2 cup milk

Place the flax seeds and yogurt on the bottom.  Then the rest of the ingredients with the ice cubes last.

If you don't have flax seeds or protein powder that is fine.  I usually always put the flax seeds.  We have tried the vanilla protein powder and thought the vanilla flavor was too strong so we ordered our plain protein powder from Amazon.
